If you are too ill or frail to visit the surgery, you can request a home visit by phoning the surgery before 10:30. This is to allow the doctor to plan her or his time.
A receptionist will ask for your personal information and for a description of your symptoms so that the urgency of your situation can be assessed. You will then receive a call back from the clinician on duty, who will decide if a home visit is necessary and will advise you on the next course of action.
All home visits are at the discretion of the duty clinician, who will decide on the necessity and urgency of your condition and are usually made during surgery hours. As there are a number of drawbacks to home visits for patients and because they can take considerably longer than a consultation in the surgery, a visit to the surgery is always preferable, where possible.
